NewsThe Fourth of July holiday may mean more outdoor activities for area residents, such as picnics, camping, fireworks and barbecues. To make Independence Day a safe one for you and your family, the Green Valley Fire District urges residents to heed the following safety tips, said Capt. Melissa Smith, the district’s public information officer. For picnics, and barbecues using charcoal, wood or propane fires, make sure you shelter your barbecue from the wind. Also: To reinforce the danger of unauthorized fireworks, Smith provided the following statistics as to why you need to leave the fireworks to the professionals: Smith said the fireworks at the Tubac Golf Resort & Spa tonight will be closely supervised by area firefighters to ensure maximum safety for the public.
