NewsSpecial to the Green Valley News Trico Electric Co-op is offering a change to lower the temperature and their electrical bills in the future with its Cool Shade Tree Program. Trico customers can purchase up to three desert-tolerant shade trees at a reduced cost of $11 each — with additional discounts to those who attend tree-care classes taught by the Master Gardeners of the Pima County Cooperative Extension. In the past 11 years, customers have purchased more than 15,000 trees for their homes and businesses. Trico says that by planting trees near their homes, customers reduce the outside temperature of the home by as much as 20 percent and see a significant savings on their energy bills. Tree care classes will be offered in September and October and tree pick-up day will take place in November at Trico’s headquarters, 8600 W. Tangerine Road in Marana. For information, sign-up, visit www.trico.coop or call 744-2944. Trico Electric Co-op serves more than 35,000 customers in Green Valley, Sahuarita, Arivaca, Corona de Tucson, Three Points, Tucson and Marana.
