Four cool friends for summer and forever

Published: Tuesday, June 24, 2008 8:52 PM MST

Johnny Boy

The great people who rescued Johnny Boy thought at first that he was a feral cat, but it turns out that although he was pretty scared right at first, (having been through a lot) he loved to be petted. He likes to roll over on his back and “knead” the air to get your attention to be sure you know what he wants. No one knows his history, of course, so they aren’t sure how much “house” time he’s had, but he is litter trained (it doesn’t take cats long to figure that out!), and would probably do well with an older, single person or couple as an only child (or maybe with a friendly, female feline).

Johnny Boy is a neutered, classic brown tabby boy, about 2-3 years old, and, despite having lived outside for quite awhile, he reports that he’s fine shape. He will be ever so grateful to have a safe, quiet place of his own, and in exchange for brushing his coat and cuddling him on a regular basis, Johnny Boy promises to reward you with many years of love and purrs.

Buddy

Buddy is the quintessential, no-sweat cat. He only likes dry food, so you don’t have to worry about those yukky-smelling cat food cans. He likes to sleep in his cat bed (but it probably wouldn’t take much to coax him into yours, if that’s your pleasure!), has perfect house manners, is sometimes quiet and laid back and sometimes playful, but always affectionate. (He’d love another cat his age to play with - or maybe even cat-friendly kids.)

Buddy is a handsome, black and white, 18-month-old, neutered guy who was left by his owners when they moved from their home in Tubac. He went to visit the neighbors for awhile (they had 20 bird feeders so you know what attracted him to THAT yard!), but they also worried about Buddy being “out there” on his own, so prevailed on the nice folks here at TALGV to take him in. Buddy is going to make some lucky family one wonderful cat, so if that is what’s missing in your life, you need look no farther!

Jill

There is no mistaking the breed of one of Jill’s parents! You can tell by the size of her ears that there is a German shepherd in her ancestry. Her black and white coloring hints at Border collie, too, so Jill is a combination of two super smart, super loyal breeds. Jill and her sister, Judy, were found wandering in the desert near West Twin Buttes Road in Sahuarita, and everyone here at The Animal League is very thankful that nothing bad happened to them out there.

At 4 months, Jill weighs 24 pounds, so she will be a medium size when she’s full grown. Having been out on her own for a while, she hasn’t yet learned all the house manners that, ideally, canines are supposed to know, but she is eager and smart, so that will ensure that she’ll be a snap to train. Jill loves to play, and is as friendly as can be, so we’re hoping for a home where she can prove what a winner she really is.

Star

Star’s name befits her, especially in the eyes of children, cats, or other dogs, all of whom she dearly loves. As a matter of fact, Star would love to have a child or another dog with whom to play. She is a black with white, 7 year old, American Eskimo mix. At 35 pounds, Star is a perfect medium size for a dog. She is spayed, housebroken, up to date on her shots, obedience and kennel trained, but needs more practice on the leash. Star is basically an inside dog, very healthy and loves to run.

Her owner reports that Star is an all round great pet, but she needs to find another home for her because she can no longer give Star the exercise she deserves. Star is an offsite dog, so to find out more about her and to arrange to meet her, please contact The Animal League of Green Valley Offsite Dog Coordinator, Cathie Fisher, at (520) 648-3738 or cgfisher1@yahoo.com.

  • For more information about these and other lovable pets waiting for their own, special home, visit The Animal League of Green Valley at 1600 W. Duval Mine Road, call 625-3170, or visit our web site at www.talgv.org.

If you can spare a 3- or 4-hour block of time each week, please contact TALGV to find out about the many volunteer opportunities available.

Many people have left for the summer, and we are especially in need of dog walkers and people who can help us lift and move heavy items for our store.
