Giffords schedules water meeting in Green Valley

Several water regulating and research groups will attend a water issues town hall sponsored by U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, D-Ariz., Tuesday in the Green Valley and Sahuarita area.

The meeting will run 1 to 4 p.m. at the Good Shepherd United Church of Christ, 17750 South La Canada Drive.

A statement by Giffords said, “Water has emerged as a major concern for residents and businesses in Green Valley and Sahuarita,” and that some constituents want to know what the federal government could play in responding to the issues surrounding water availability and use in the area.”

Participating in the town hall will be representatives from the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation, the Central Arizona Project, Pima County, the Arizona Water Resources Research Center and the Arizona Water Institute.

Giffords’ announcement also said, “We will also hear testimony from area residents and from local experts representing groups that are involved with the water related discussions currently under way.”

She said people planning to attend the town hall should RSVP to 881-3588 by Thursday.


Giffords staffers plan office hours in region

Staff members from the office of U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords plan meetings with constituents in Green Valley, Sahuarita and Tubac on Thursday, July 17.

They’ll hold office hours at 9 to 10 a.m. at the Green Valley Community Coordinating Council office, 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Sahuarita Town Hall and from noon to 1 p.m. at the Tubac Community Center.
