The bodies of three illegal border-crossers were found in the Arivaca area over the past week, a spokesperson for the U.S. Border Patrol said.

In one incident, the body of a man was discovered in a wash by an off-duty Border Patrol agent who was barbecuing with his family on Father’s Day, spokesperson Robert Daniels said Friday.

Since Oct. 1 the bodies of more than 75 border-crossers have been discovered in the Southern Arizona desert, he said.

In other Border Patrol news, two criminals were apprehended last week at the Interstate 19 checkpoint in Amado.

On Monday, fingerprint checks led to the discovery of an illegal border-crosser who is also a sex offender, Daniels said. The Mexican National had been convicted of Sex Crimes against Children.

An illegal border-crosser from El Salvador who has ties to a violent street gang was apprehended at the checkpoint Tuesday.

Both men were sent to the Nogales Station for processing and now face prosecution for Re-entry of an Aggravated Felon.

Tuesday night, the Border Patrol apprehended a man who drove past agents at the checkpoint when he was told to stop for a vehicle inspection. Agents caught up with him on the Interstate near Arivaca Road and discovered six bundles of marijuana hidden inside the trunk of the vehicle worth $57,100.

The driver, marijuana and vehicle were turned over the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, Daniels said.
