It’s not a dirty word

While it’s been a long journey, passing through the Green Party and a long dry stretch as a registered independent, I have finally returned, strong and proud, to the Democratic Party.

More importantly, I no longer have to apologize and make excuses for what President Bush Sr. called “the L word.”

There is nothing wrong with being a liberal. There is nothing wrong with really caring about what becomes of our beloved country and her people.

When we shine an honest light on our real issues, look for systemic solutions, and rise above the destructive practices of demonizing people and nations, the smokescreens of knee-jerk non issues, and the manipulative tactics of “weapons of mass distraction,” we can all unite in saving and changing this country for the highest good of all.

We owe this to our children and grandchildren, or they may have no future at all. This fall, vote for hope in the 21st century: vote for Barack Obama.

" What a ridiculous implication that only liberals care about this country and its people. I took the journey from being a life long Democrat to being a conservative because of people like Barack Obama and the writer of this letter and their total lack of understanding of issues that determine our survival. Vote for "hope".? What does that mean? Is that a new Democratic program or just more buzz words that mean absolutely nothing? Vote for Barack Obama? Talk about knee jerk reactions. "
