ObituariesPAULINE E. KLEIST,
a resident of Green Valley since 1976, passed away on June 16, 2008, at the age of 89. A native of Sheffield, Pa., Pauline was born on June 4, 1919, the second of three children of Carl and Ellen Anderson. After completing her high school education, she attended W.C.A. Hospital in Jamestown, N.Y. where she became a registered nurse. She pursued this career for nearly thirty years, providing care in hospital settings, a physician’s office and finally in long-term care for the elderly. In 1942, she married John E. Bowley, also of Sheffield. Their life together encompassed 36 years during which they had their four children and built their careers as they moved about the country. Their final destination was Green Valley where John passed away in 1976. Polly remained in Arizona and met and married Paul Kleist in 1979. They were married 26 years and were active participants in their church and the Green Valley community. For many years, they travelled extensively both in the U.S. and abroad, enjoying their trips throughout Europe, New Zealand and China as well as summers in northern Minnesota until Paul’s death in 2005. Throughout her life, Polly was a doer who loved meeting people and sharing experiences with them. Though she loved to play bridge at any opportunity, she was also an avid outdoorswoman who golfed, played tennis, hiked and camped until the last few years. Polly leaves behind her daughter Joncea Stemnock of California; sons John (Nancy) Bowley of Massachusetts, James (Johnna) Bowley and Richard Bowley, all of California; grandchildren Jenna Bowley of New York and John (Stephany) Bowley of Massachusetts; great-grandson Samuel; stepson John (Edwina) Kleist and his two sons Kevin (Kelly) and Scott (Cindy), all of Texas. She also leaves behind extended family and the many friends she made over her life. She will be missed by all whose lives she touched. A memorial service is planned for Monday, June 23 at 11 a.m. at the Valley Presbyterian Church in Green Valley. In lieu of flowers, Pauline requested a remembrance to one of the following: Hospice Family Care, 6300 East El Dorado Plaza, Suite A-100, Tucson AZ 85715 (520-790-9299); The University of Arizona Foundation, UA Sarver Heart Center, PO Box 24506, Tucson AZ 85724 (520-626-4146; Valley Presbyterian Church, 2800 S.
