NewsSevere dehydration sends border crosser to Tucson hospital A woman was airlifted to a local hospital Tuesday night after she was discovered near Arivaca suffering from severe dehydration, a spokesperson for the U.S. Border Patrol said. The 35-year-old woman from Puebla, Mexico, was found 10 miles south of Arivaca Road by a citizen who called the Border Patrol on his cell phone. He was using a Global Position System and gave agents his coordinates, spokesperson Robert Daniels said. The woman was found on a trail known to be used by illegal immigrants, Daniels said. Around 6:30 p.m. she was airlifted to Carondelet-St. Mary’s Hospital in Tucson, where she was treated for severe dehydration and exposure. Checkpoint nabs sex offender A convicted sex offender and illegal immigrant was apprehended Tuesday at the Interstate checkpoint in Amado, a Border Patrol spokesperson said. The 29-year-old Mexican national had prior convictions for rape, drug possession and other sex crimes, all out of Marion County, Ore., Robert Daniels said. He had been previously deported in 2007, 2002 and 2001. The felon was apprehended when the shuttle bus he was riding in was stopped at the checkpoint and agents ran fingerprints through their database. He was processed for removal and prosecution, Daniels said. 20 illegals flee into GV neighborhood About 20 illegal immigrants bailed from a vehicle and ran through a Green Valley neighborhood early Wednesday morning, Pima County Sheriff’s reports said. Around 5 a.m., an officer noticed a suspicious vehicle traveling northbound on Interstate 19, the report said. The truck exited at Esperanza Boulevard and drove north on Abrego Drive before making a sharp turn onto East Verde Vista. The driver then entered a residential driveway and parked the truck in a carport, the report said. When the officer approached the vehicle, approximately 20 illegal immigrants jumped out of the bed and cab of truck, running behind the home and into an adjacent wash. Pima County Sheriff’s officers and Border Patrol agents followed footprints in the wash, though it is unknown if any of the suspects were apprehended. Golf carts taken from several homes Someone attempted to steal several golf carts last week in Green Valley neighborhoods near North Abrego Drive, Pima County Sheriff’s Reports said. One woman reported her golf cart stolen from her carport on North Paseo Maravilloso, only to find it had been moved to the driveway of a house on North Abrego Drive, the report said. The owner of a house across the street also reported his golf cart stolen that morning. Another resident, who lives off of nearby East Paseo Chuparosas, reported that sometime during the night his golf cart had been moved from his carport to the sidewalk in front of his house.
