Madera development foes still fighting

Foes of some kinds of development near the entrance to Madera Canyon plan to go before the Pima County Board of Adjustment this week.

The issue of developing the area is a serious topic in Green Valley. A group called Friends of Madera Canyon is hoping to curb development or make it more compatible with the area.

Developer Mike Kettenbach, whose family has owned the property in question for more than 50 years, plans a development north of the Forest Service’s Madera Canyon recreation area.

Kettenbach has changed some of his plans to make any building more compatible with the area’s ambiance, but some still oppose the plan.

Chet Davis, chairman of the county Board of Adjustment who represents this area for the County Board of Supervisors, said the appeal will question decisions favoring owner-developer Mike Kettenbach.

The public will be permitted to speak.

The Board of Adjustment will meet at the County Public Works Center, 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, at Meeting Room C, Basement level, 201 N. Stone Ave., Tucson.
