NewsCelebrate Flag Day on Saturday, June 14, at the formal unveiling of the new Arizona flag postage stamp. Tucson was selected as the site in the state for the First Day Issuance of the Flags of Our Nation stamp series, which features a beautiful stamp featuring Arizona’s flag and desert scenery. A free community event to celebrate the stamp’s issuance will be held at the Postal History Foundation, 920 N. 1st Ave., from 10- a.m. to noon. The ceremony will take place from 10:30 to 11 a.m. in the courtyard and will feature the Lady Phantoms Color Guard, Tucson Postmaster Carl Grigle and other special guests, The new stamps, a special postmark cancel and commemorative envelopes (designed by local artist Carla Turco) will be available for sale, This event is open to the public and will include exhibits, mini-tours, kids activities, raffle and refreshments. Free parking is available in the lot at 2nd Street and 1st Avenue. Information: 623-6652, ext 101. Elks to have Flag Day ceremony A Flag Day ceremony will be presented at 9 a.m. Saturday, June 14, by the Green Valley Elks Lodge 2592. The public and all Elks are invited. The honor guard from Davis-Monthan Air Force Base will conduct the “Changing of the Flag,” and the Army Band from Fort Huachuca will play. Refreshments courtesy of the Elks Auxiliary will follow the ceremony.
