After waiting four years for more “Sex,” those carrying the X chromosome are severely swooning for more.
When the big-screen version was finally given the green light a collective screech could be heard across the world.
Yippee!!
More Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte, Miranda, and, of course, Mr. Big is like a dream come true for many cosmo-sipping g-friends. If you’re a fan of the HBO series the movie will only cement that title and multiply it to the tenth power.
With a feast for the eyes montage we are caught up to what’s happened in the ladies’ lives since they stepped off the boob tube (which is a literal translation for Samantha). Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) has now authored a total of three books about being single in the city and is still dating Mr. Big exclusively.
Charlotte’s (Kristin Davis) still happily married to Harry and they’ve adopted a 3-year-old little girl. Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) is unhappily married to Steve the bartender and they have an adorable 5-year-old boy, with the brightest red hair.
And Samantha (Kim Catrell), oh Samantha; she’s the type of infamous character that makes you smile before she’s said a word. You know what she’s been up to, because she won’t ever change. The cougar’s moved to Hollywood to continue dating Smith and manage his blooming acting career, though, “Samantha’s love is sex.”
When the four fashionistas first sit down to chow and dish, it’s almost too much to handle. Do we really get to see this again? It feels like it’s almost a dream. These women are always dressed to beyond perfection and sitting in the most vibrant of areas. Every scene in the film, which runs roughly two hours 25 minutes, is like a pop-culture painting.
Ladies welcome to the museum of “SATC,” your docent for the evening will be Ms. Carrie Bradshaw, so fasten your Jimmy Choos and get ready for the ultimate tour.
The film unfolds like three separate episodes. Without giving away too many fab and drab details, Carrie is lamely proposed to by John James Preston (we finally find out his name 15 mins into the film), “I wouldn’t mind be married to you,” the unattainable man says. She does a once in a lifetime “Vogue” photo shoot and prepares for the wedding to end all weddings. The man formally known as Mr. Big has some reservations, though they’ve been dating for 10 years he’s still having walk down the aisle fright. Concurrently Miranda breaks up with Steve due to infidelity and is trying to deal decide what to do with her shaky marriage.
Episode two follows the ladies to Mexico for a grand ole, pour on the tequila and bring on the guacamole vacation. The girl power feeling is in full swing by this time, as the ladies are minus their significant others. Across the border we find out that Miranda hasn’t shaved down there for six months and Charlotte has an incident with eating too much pudding, and…
The final chapter in this sex-laden saga goes back to NYC. Jennifer Hudson’s introduced as Louise, Carrie’s new assistant, and she doesn’t miss a beat getting in line with the ladies as another pizzazz contributing, pivotal character. Old supporting cast mates like Mario Cantone and Willie Garson also show up along with a buffet of characters brought back to compliment the Gucci goddesses. Director Michael Patrick King said he wouldn’t bring the series back unless it was done right, and this couldn’t be better from top to bottom (no pun intended).
This trip down memory lane has women (and some men) lined up around the block waiting for their coveted ticket. It’s definitely a line worth standing in — even if you’re in the highest of heels and have had the longest of days.
“SATC” is worth the four year wait, so what’s another 20 minutes? Trust this crazed fan, you’ll float out of the cinema in post-coital, movie going bliss.
