NewsGreen Valley Recreation’s board of directors rejected a plan to charge homeowners’ associations $10 to rent a meeting room. The vote was 10-0. Currently, GVR charges non-member organizations a rental fee, and the $10 for members was to help cover administrative scheduling costs. The meeting’s minutes showed that Leon Lies, who introduced the motion for the Fiscal Affairs Committee, said before the vote he was against the idea. He said it would “nickel and dime” the members. Vice President Eddie Peabody, who was presiding, said, “The majority of individuals are GVR members and they have the right to use the facilities.” Member Linda Sparks said there was no way to enforce collection of the fees and said that “since members can use a GVR facility any time they want, and it is no one’s business what the purpose is.” Member Chuck Catino said he agreed that “the HOAs should receive the room for free.” The board was considering several motions that had been forwarded by its fiscal affairs committee. The directors approved increases in fees for rentals from non-GVR groups and holding “no shows” accountable for the rent, Finance Director Jim Cassidy reported that in April GVR had total revenue of $2,567,207 and expenses of $2,251,477 for a net income of $351,730. Cassidy reported that GVR total net assets for April $16,492,776. There are 65 homeowner associations that are GVR members. GVR has 12 centers serving an estimated 24,000 individuals who live in 12,360 member households. jlamb@gvnews.com | 547-9749
