NewsComing sign of the times: $4 a gallon for gasoline?
By Jim Lamb, Green Valley NewsFour dollar-a-gallon gasoline is not in Arizona yet, but recent increases might be a warning that it’s just ahead. AAA Arizona, the auto club, said there are already 11 states and the District of Columbia where gasoline is $4 a gallon or more. The average price for regular unleaded in Pima County, according to information released Thursday, was $3.662. In Tucson, it was $3.653. A year ago, the Tucson average price was $3.031. Gas stations in Green Valley posted prices ranging from $3.65 at the Circle K on La Canada to $3.89 a gallon at stations on Esperanza Boulevard and Continental Road on Saturday. Green Valley prices are often 20 cents higher than Tucson. The new gas station in Sahuarita, Super Stop, was charging $3.71 for regular unleaded Saturday. Linda Gorman, AAA Arizona’s public affairs manager, said as prices climb, it may lead to less demand and that may help depress prices. “This drop in demand should stabilize prices. However, it is difficult to determine at what point that will occur.” Nationally, Missouri has the lowest average price for a gallon of regular, $3.761. The highest average is in Connecticut $4.223. Arizona’s average price is $3.810. Flagstaff has the state’s highest average price, $3.911. jlamb@gvnews.com | 547-9749
