NewsTwo trucks stopped on I-19 yield millions in drugs Law enforcement crews stopped two large trucks on Interstate 19 in less than a week and seized large amounts of marijuana. Last Saturday, the Arizona Department of Public Safety stopped a tractor trailer in the northbound lanes of I-19 near Nogales. A subsequent investigation showed 3,379 pounds of marijuana worth about $3 million stashed among a shipment of tomatoes. The driver was arrested and the truck was seized. The truck had been stopped for an equipment violation. Wednesday, Border Patrol agents stopped a truck at the I-19 checkpoint north of Tubac. A dog had alerted the agents, and when the truck was pulled aside, “again the canine alerted to the presence of drugs.” Inside the trailer filled with squash were 63 bundles of marijuana weighing 1,383 pounds and valued at a little more than $1 million. The Border Patrol said that since Oct. 1, agents have seized 520,000 pounds of marijuana. Dogs were responsible for spotting more than 134,000 pounds. Green Valley author writes about dealing with abortion Green Valley resident Patricia Krohn will be signing her new book, “Guilty No More,” at two events in June. On Monday, June 2, from 10 a.m. to noon, Krohn will be at the Book Shop, 231 W. Esperanza Blvd., in the Green Valley Mall. On Friday, June 13, she will give a short talk during a book signing at Friends in Deed, 301 W. Camino Casa Verde, Room C, from 9:30 a.m. to noon. Society’s obsession with the volatile subject of abortion has divided people and caused some post-abortion women to feel like lepers. Krohn wrote “Guilty No More” because guilt was her addiction. “My abortion affected my decisions and behavior until I changed from co-dependent habits to healthful behavior,” she says. “My goal is to help anyone who wants to change.” The book is being used at retreat centers by post-abortion women as well as pro-life groups, alcohol/drug support groups and those dealing with such co-dependency issues as control. “A stellar book, ‘Guilty No More’ presents a tender and honest rendition of techniques for healing after an abortion,” says Rosemary O. O’Connor, LPC, psychotherapist. “Pat Krohn shares her painful but healing journey with honesty and deep faith,” says Sister Marie Schwan CSJ, author and retreat director. editorial@gvnews.com
