Three open houses set on frontage roads

Published: Thursday, May 22, 2008 6:50 PM MST

The Arizona Department of Public Transportation plans three open houses this week to get public feedback on the Interstate 19’s frontage road from Tucson to Nogales.

They are 5 p.m. Tuesday at Tubac Golf Resort; 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Green Valley American Legion Post, 1560 West Duval Mine Road, Sahuarita, and 5 p.m. Thursday at the Nogales City Council chambers, 777 North Grand Avenue, Nogales.

These three open houses shouldn’t be confused with a hearing in mid-June dealing specifically with the east frontage road from Continental Road south to the Canoa interchange. That hearing will be before the Pima County Board of Supervisors at the county building in Tucson at 9 a.m. Tuesday, June 17.

The three open houses this month are to help the transportation department get input on safety and land access conditions and also to “develop recommendations for improvements to the frontage roads.”

There are gaps in the frontage roads that run alongside the approximately 40 miles of Interstate between Tucson and Nogales.
