Haven Golf Course hosts Santa Cruz seniors

On May 2, 55 able-bodies members of the Santa Cruz Seniors Golf Club put their best feet forward and challenged the Haven Golf Club in a two-best ball net event.

The course was in great shape and good scores were a direct result.

Two teams tied for fifth, but the team of Andy Sorenson, Gene Tackitt, Bill Treichel and John Reed won the scorecard playoff from Bob Nicholas, Dennis Dinwiddie, Sonny Thomas and Hayward Sumner. Their scores were 20-under par.

Taking fourth at 21-under were Art Schott, Bruce Atkinson, John Carlson and Russ Hadden.

One shot better at 22-under came the team of Norm Brooks, Will Bernard, Bill Neumann and Allen Patzke.

There was another tie for first place so the ever-famous scorecard playoff was put into play again.

Using the USGA recommended back side score as the first playoff option, the team of John Lamb, Tom Smith, Jack Lewis and Bob Mitacek came up short, thus ending up in second behind this month’s winning team: President Bill Rathburn, Jim Hudson, Bob Schoel and Bob Day.

These teams finished at a whopping 25 under par.

Sorenson and Kilby won closest-to-the-pin awards, while Brooks snared two of those coveted awards.

On Friday, this group will play at The Country Club of Green Valley to make up their ealier rain-out at this facility.

On June 6, they travel to Vail to play the always-popular Del Lago course.
