ObituariesANDREW HENRY DOYLE passed away
at 87 years old on May 4, 2008 in Tucson. He was born in New Bedford, Mass. on Aug. 12, 1921, to Harriet and Charles A. Rogers. He attended Sacred Heart Academy in New Bedford where he won medals and broke records in track and field and swimming. He entered the U.S. Army Air Corps in the early 1940s, where, in basic training in communications, he met the love of his life, Helen J. Graef, just out of college. She went on to join the U.S. Navy as a decoder and they married in a military ceremony in Long Beach, Calif. Andrew’s service during the war took him to Burma, China and India for two years and when he returned he had a long career with the New England Telephone Co. He moved his young family to Chatham, Mass. in 1951, where he and Helen were avid golfers and adventurous world travellers, and he became an excellent woodcarver. They later moved to Green Valley, where they enjoyed the people and weather of the Southwest. He was preceded in death by his wife Helen on April 2, 2006. He is survived by his daughters Ann Doyle and Trudi Burrows and his grandson Thomas Andrew Burrows. His friends and family will remember his kindness and sense of humor and love of good food. We will all miss him dearly, though we know his spirit is with us. The family wishes to thank all the staff at Silver Springs. Donations may be sent to the Cancer and Parkinson’s Research Foundation.
