County urges measles vaccinations

Three new measles cases have been reported in Pima County, bringing the count in an outbreak that began in mid-February to 20.

County health officials are urging vaccinations to prevent the disease, which can be spread by coughing, sneezing and through the air. It can lead to severe complications, including death.

More than 1,000 people showed up to get free vaccinations Wednesday at a health clinic run by Pima County.

County Health Department spokeswoman Patti Woodcock says clinics will be held six days a week through the end of the month. The clinic hours are 9 a.m.-7 p.m. on weekdays and 9 a.m.-3 p.m. on Saturdays.

The clinic is being held at the Tucson’s Randolph Golf Course on Alvernon Way.
