Sahuarita resident campaigns for supervisor’s seat

Sahuarita resident Robert Robuck is collecting signatures, hoping to get his name on the ballot to run for Pima County Supervisor in District 2.

Robuck’s decision means he will challenge Supervisor Ramon Valadez in the Democratic Party primary.

Robuck said he disagrees with Valadez’s vote against allowing Democrats to view the database from the 2006 elections.

“Why not allow them to view the database, unless you have something to hide … voters need to know that every vote is counted—and counted accurately,” Robuck said.

His second reason is the Rosemont Mine issue. Augusta Resource Corp. wants to mine for copper and other precious minerals in the Santa Rita Mountains.

“Enough is enough… we know what mines bring. Empty promises,” he said. Robuck spoke of subsidence (groundwater sinking due to depletion), the mining company using Santa Rita Road as a thoroughfare for its trucks, and the overall negative impact the mine will have on the future growth of Sahuarita.
