“March Madness” isn’t just for college basketball anymore.

That phrase could be used to describe the atmosphere surrouding the Quail Creek tennis court.

March 4 saw Quail Creek hosting the second annual visit from the boys’ and girls’ Sahuarita tennis teams.

Under blue skies, the “aging pros” took on the youngsters and everyone had a great time. For the third year, the Tennis Club will be offering two scholarships to graduating tennis players continuing their education.

On March 10, the Fourth Annual Tournament began with the Seniors (65+) and Singles competing.

Mixed, men’s and women’s doubles began play the week of March 17.

In all, 85 matches were played. Championship matches were played on Friday, March 21 under perfect conditions. Spectators to the finals enjoyed BBQ’d hot dogs, chips and soft drinks.

All in all, two weeks of great tennis and sportsmanship were on display.

A dinner and dance awards banquet was held April 6 to complete the tournament festivities.

Mid Life Crisis, a local band provided the after dinner entertainment.

The event provided a great send-off for our winter visitors who will be looking forward to next year’s competition.

Ian and Sue Meldrum are co-tournament directors for the Quail Creek Tennis Assocaition.
