The Sahuarita High School Drama Group will present the popular musical, “Grease,” at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday. There will also be a matinee show at 1 p.m. Saturday.

All performances will be in the Sahuarita District Auditorium, 350 Sahuarita Road.

Proceeding the opening night performance on Thursday the cast will host an ice cream social, in front of the auditorium, starting at 5 p.m.

Tickets are $7 for the general public and $5 for seniors and students and can purchased at the box office the day of the show prior to performances or by calling the director, Gloria Colchado at 625-3502, ext.. 1555.

A lively and funny musical, as well as a showcase for outstanding choreography, “Grease” brings back the look and sound of the teenage world of the late 1950s.

As presented by the drama group at Sahuarita High School, “Grease” provides an entertaining experience with zip and charm. The songs are classic musical hits, the dialogue “cool” and the sheer energy of these young actors and dancers makes it all worth seeing.

The director said that more than 50 kids turned out to audition for “Grease” and she cast 34.

The setting is Rydell High and its spirited class of 1959. The gum-chewing, hot-rod-loving boys in duck tail haircuts and leather jackets, along with their wisecracking girls in teased curls, bobby sox, and pedal pushers capture the look and sound of the rock ‘n’ roll era.

While hip Danny Zuko and wholesome Sandy Dumbrowski resolve the problems of their mutual attraction for each other, the gang sings and dances its way through such nostalgic scenes as the pajama party, the prom, the burger palace, and the drive-in movie.

Danny is the leader of the hottest gang at Rydell High School, the Greasers. He’s every guy’s friend and he makes all the girls swoon.

Sandy Dumbrowski is a clean-cut “goody two-shoes” who spends her weekends studying but is drawn into a girl gang known as the Pink Ladies.

Danny and Sandy fell in love at the beach over the summer, but parted ways at the end of vacation. Both are startled to find that Sandy is attending Rydell. The show gives a glimpse of the ups and downs of their budding relationship as well as their connections with the senior class. In a rollicking salute, the show’s climax is a huge prom party where all the entanglements work out.
