WOODROW D. NELSON,

formerly of Sandwich, Ill., died April 2, 2008 in Green Valley at the age of 84, with his wife Malou at his side.

He was born in Chicago, Ill. to Arthur and Ruby Nelson. He was a WWII veteran who served in Europe as a demolition expert. He lived most of his life in the Chicago area, where he was employed as a mechanical design engineer by Illinois Tool Works for 18 years. He later owned a radio station in Joliet, Ill. His last occupation was as a consulting engineer for Triodyne Inc. in Chicago.

He had many hobbies: metal art welding, photography and writing.

His is survived by Malou, his wife of 31 years; his sons Larry (Pam) and Bruce Nelson; his stepsons Michael (Linda) and Maurice (Janet) Balhan; his grandchildren Douglas and Jenny Nelson; and step-grandchildren Michelle, Steven, Michael, Krystle and Matthew Balhan.

A Celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. today, April 6, 2008, at Green Valley Mortuary.
