Take the challenge: • Turn off the water while brushing your teeth; • Make your shower super-short; • Shut off the lights whenever you leave a room; • Pack lunches in reusable containers; • Turn the heat or air conditioner down by one degree; • Bring a coffee mug to work (no more disposable cups!); • Check the air pressure in your tires; • When driving, stay below 55 mph (and try to carpool!); • Skip the elevator (walk up those stairs!); • Print on both sides of the paper; • Bring a foldable, reusable tote to the grocery store (even Wal-Mart is selling them); • Remove your name from junk-mail lists at dmaconsumers.org/cgi/offmailinglist. The Quail Creek Performing Arts Guild proudly presents, “Happiness Is,” a musical play about life featuring 19 Broadway songs and an original title song, at 7 p.m., Friday, April 18 and at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m., Saturday, April 19 at the Madera Clubhouse at Quail Creek Resort Community. The show promises to meet the tremendous standard set by last April’s Madera Revue and this past December’s Christmas production of Holiday’s Inn, both of which received wide acclaim from residents of Quail Creek and Green Valley. Several hundred people came out to support Green Valley Recreation’s longtime employees Danny Freeman and his wife Shelly at a benefit event Sunday, March 30th at the West Center. The event, headed by Nicole Raymond and many, many devoted volunteers, included a silent auction, drawing, bake sale and entertainment raised more than $4,000 to help the Freemans with bills following an operation the couple went through this past January. Shelly became a kidney transplant donor for her husband Danny and although both have come trough with flying colors, they still have considerable ongoing medical expenses. The entertainment featured musical performances by Allan Riding, Dave Jeffrey and Lanny Webb with vocalists Joe Bourne, Yours Truly, Joey Lessa and Kari Shaff. (Check out the video clip on our Web site at gvnews.com) It was an incredible afternoon of giving and at the end of the afternoon, Shelly, Danny and their daughter Mica tearfully thanked the audience. Donations can still be made at the Green Valley M&I Bank in Shelly Freeman’s name. The Tubac Culinary School at Plaza de Anza Tubac, was the setting recently for a luncheon hosted by W.F. Stevens Financial Advisors, LLC, an independent firm, and Joann Ham, treating a dozen or so clients to an afternoon meal”crepe creations with Chef Monika Ludwigsen. On hand for great food and fun was Bill Stevens, owner, W.F. Stevens Financial and his business manager, Volney F. Morin, Jr. Chef Monika offered an entertaining and educational demonstration on preparing and presenting a gourmet luncheon, featuring appetizers and salads followed by Crab and Shrimp Crepes with pesto sause, Chicken Persiade with a wild mushroom sauce, Asparagus Crepes with tarragon and Cr©me Fraiche and Almond Roasted Pears for dessert. Chef Noah Aguilar is the executive chef in charge of the Tubac Culinary School’s cooking program. Chef Noah teaches evening meals and also the Jr. Chef Club that meets on Saturday mornings. He also teaches private lessons by appointment, as well as additional classes upon request. He has been nominated to be the chef spokesperson for the Fresh Produce Association of the Americas. In addition, he has been creating recipes and food-styling for the Ciruli Brothers’ Web site, a local produce company. Chef Noah graduated from the New England Culinary Institute and has 10 years of additional training from a variety of chefs and restaurants throughout the country. Call (520) 398-8501 for more info. This Group is Single, also known as, TGIS, is up and active and looking for new members, according to Alma McHugh, he group’s vice president. Founded in Green Valley, the singles group was formed to provide social contacts for single men and women in Green Valley and Sahuarita age 50 and over. TGIS members meet at 3:45 p.m. every Wednesday with the official meeting starting at 4 p.m. at the Green Valley Elks Lodge #2592, 2591 S. Camino Mercado. Activities include approximately 14 social outings a year including social hours, dancing, bridge, bowling, golf, theater, cruises, dining and more activities.
