State’s USDA Rural Development meets here to seek fund requests

Published: Thursday, April 3, 2008 8:51 PM MST

A special division of the Department of Agriculture has scheduled a Green Valley meeting to encourage local applications for federal loans and grants.

It’s the department’s rural development administration, and the meeting set for 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 9, at the Joyner-Green Valley Library.

The Rural Development Agency said the government workers will be interested in talking to people from Green Valley, Sahuarita, Sells and the Pasqua Yaqui tribe.

The announcement said the Rural Development Administration is “seeking applications…for a variety of projects, such as senior centers, hospitals, libraries, housing, business development and police and fire stations and equipment.”

Arizona’s Rural Development Administration Director Eddie Browning plans to attend the meeting.

“We hope to see business developers, city and town planners, police and fire representatives, housing folks and advocates for seniors, children and students at this session,” he said.

After the meeting opens at 1 p.m., there will be “break out” sessions were applicants will meet with others seeking similar requests.
