WILLIAM A. “BILL” KNAPP,

a former resident of Green Valley, died March 29, 2008.

He was born on Feb. 7, 1911, in Bradford, Pa. He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Allis (Hastings); his parents; his brothers the Rev. Robert Knapp and Donald Knapp; a son-in-law Rev. Dr. Lewis R. Thomas; sisters-in-law Helen Hastings Smith, Eunice G. Hastings, and Mona S. Knapp; and brothers-in-law George D. Hastings and Joseph H. Smith. A sister-in-law, Janet Young Knapp of Hiawassee, Ga., survives.

His children Mary Ruth (George) McKean of Pittsburgh, Pa., Allis Louise Thomas of St. Louis, Mo., Nancy (Thomas) Neilson of Towanda, Pa. and Thomas A. (Patricia) Knapp of Fairfax, Va. survive him; as well as nine grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Knapp retired from Kendall/Amalie Division of Witco Chemical Corp. of Bradford, Pa. in 1976 after 42 years, where he served in several capacities, retiring as manager of lubrication sales.

After retiring, Bill and Mary Allis moved to Green Valley in 1978, where they joined the Valley Presbyterian Church. Bill was a Board Member for the Kiwanis Club of Santa Rita, and the KWSeal Hi-12 Club as well as a member of Elks Lodge of Green Valley. He was also an active volunteer in the Community Food Bank, and affiliated with the Alzheimer’s Association of Southern Arizona.

Mr. Knapp returned to Pennsylvania in 2000.


A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 5, 2008, at the First Presbyterian Church in Bradford, Pa.
