Pima County Animal Control officers removed 25 dogs from a Sahuarita home after discovering they were being kept in deplorable conditions, officials said.

Officers arrived at the home in the 3300 block of East El Toro Road on Tuesday to conduct a welfare check, and found the dogs kept in cages, the floor of the home covered in animal feces, Pima County Sheriff’s reports said.

Officers report that three dogs were kept in one small puppy cage; another single cage held as many as seven dogs. Many of the animals had injuries from fighting, they said.

Animal Control successfully removed the dogs from the home; citations for the owners are pending, reports said.
