A Sahuarita man was killed Wednesday night in a head-on collision that closed Sahuarita Road for more than seven hours, officials said.
Allen Spivey, 60, was killed when a sport-utility vehicle traveling westbound on Sahuarita Road near Nogales Highway lost control and crossed into oncoming traffic around 6:30 p.m., said Officer Sam Almodova, a spokesperson for of the Sahuarita Police Department.
The SUV first hit a trailer being pulled by a Chevy Suburban, then spun into Spivey’s Ford Focus station wagon, Almodova said.
Spivey was taken to University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. Three others involved in the accident were uninjured, Almodova said.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation, though speed and inattention may have contributed, he said.
The driver of the SUV has not been cited, pending the outcome of the investigation.
Sahuarita Road was reopened around 1 a.m, he said.
