ColumnsToday’s news of the weird…A 35-year-old Kansas woman was taken to a hospital after sitting for two years on the toilet seat at her boyfriend’s home… …The seat had to be removed and then the hospital separated the seat from the woman, who’s probably best described as shy and not anxious to go outside…The boyfriend brought her food and drink, and every time he suggested she should change locations she said “Maybe tomorrow”… …Unanswered question how could she get to the mirror to brush her hair and put on makeup?… …The 2,350 machines hadn’t been moved in the 26 years the Sands operated in Atlantic City…The workers expected to find an odd quarter of two that gamblers might have dropped and not recovered… …They found $17,193.34 according to The Associated Press… …The money was coins, casino tokens and even a $100 bill…The money was found between the machines, under the machines and even beneath the carpet…A casino spokesperson said some of the coins had to be pried up, and she further described them as “gunky and dirty”… …My guess it’s the name and age of the driver as in Larry 14 … …More license plates … “HEY 60 YR” … “AU RUSH” or gold rush … “BAT” on a Kansas plate and from a list supplied by a friend … “2N2 R4” probably on a Texas school teacher’s vehicle … “2M80S” tomatoes … “2QT4U” too cute for you, driven by a glamorous gal in California … “BAA BAA” on a black jeep … -It’s ArtWalk in Tubac Saturday and Sunday…Scores of galleries and studios will be open for demonstrations and a chance to meet the artists… …Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m…Admission’s free… -Saturday’s also Star Party time at the Smithsonian observatory’s visitor center at the base of Mount Hopkins…Visitor center opens at 5 p.m., informal lecture starts at 6:15 and then SHOWTIME at 7:15 when visitors can look through scores of telescopes set up in the parking lot…No charge… -There’s a solar-power forum at 9 a.m. Saturday at Canoa Hills rec center…New legislation makes it easier for people who want to install solar equipment on their roofs…Speakers will set aside time to handle audience members’ questions…No charge… --And the Forest Service will hold a meeting 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 19, at Canoa Hills rec center to talk about environmental aspects of the proposed environmental impact statement for the planned copper mine at Rosemont northeast of Green Valley… Jim Lamb is reporter for the Green Valley News who says he has lost money in casinos, but it’s because the slots didn’t give any of it back. jlamb@gvnews.com | 547-9749
