The Green Valley Community Food Bank is participating in the Feinstein One Million Dollar Challenge again this year.
Rhode Island philanthropist Alan Shawn Feinstein is offering $1 million in March and April to non-profit, anti-hunger agencies throughout the United States. He will divide his $1 million among all agencies using his offer to help them raise funds from March 1 through April 30.
Each participating agency will then receive its share of the million dollars equal to their proportion of the total amount raised by all participants, in response to the offer.
All donations made to the Green Valley Community Food Bank, and received during the dates March 1-April 30 will be reported to the Feinstein Foundation for the challenge.
Only donations received during this time period can be reported. In addition, all food donations received during this same time period are recorded as a $1 donation per pound.
As a result of 2007’s Feinstein Challenge, the Food Bank raised $59,184 in donations and the equivalent of $42,371 in food donations. The Green Valley Community Food Bank is located at 250 E. Continental Road, just east of the intersection of Abrego and Continental. Donations can be mailed or dropped off at the Food Bank from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday.
