Students and seniors will be joining forces Saturday for a good cause: a car wash to promote the March 15 Rotary Radio Auction, with proceeds going to Great Expectations Academy in Sahuarita.
The car wash will take place at Green Valley Fire District Station 151 on La Canada Drive, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Students from Great Expectations will be washing cars and accepting donations, while Rotarians and GVFD Fire Corps volunteers distribute free “auction dollars,” $10 coupons good for use at their KGVY radio auction March 15.
Volunteers will also be selling raffle tickets for a 10-day trip-for-two to Costa Rica to be raffled off at the end of the auction. Tickets are $5 each or five for $20.
The Green Valley, Sahuarita and Valley Verde Rotary Clubs are hosting the auction with the goal of raising $25,000 for the Green Valley Fire District Fire Corps, a group of specially trained volunteers who handle non-emergency fire calls for the district. The money will go toward a new Ford F-150 truck for the volunteers.
Local businesses have donated everything from restaurant dinners to golf equipment, to collectors’ items such as a basketball signed by University of Arizona Wildcats coach Lute Olson.
