Lamb on the Run: Don’t ‘spring forward’ ” or ‘fall back’

Daylight Savings Time starts Sunday for most of the country-but not Arizona-

-Maybe state lawmakers couldn’t figure out how to adjust their sun dials and just said “the heck with it”-Mexico goes on Daylight Savings April 6-

-We’ll be on the same time as California and an hour earlier than New Mexico.

•Seen on license plates, reading to keep my sanity behind the wheel - “APRAISE” - “ELLEN 6” - “BLUE 666” (blue devil?) - “FLEA” on a VW Rabbit - “TOO HOT” on an Arizona motorcycle -

•He should know better-in Kentucky earlier this week, a man dressed like Elvis was seen walking down the sidewalk a little before 8 a.m-

-Someone gave him a ride to the Jessamine County Courthouse for a court appearance, but the judge held him in contempt-for being drunk-

-Said he must have been celebrated too much the night before-

•Must be those long, cold nights in Alaska-Gov. Sarah Palin stunned some reporters on Wednesday telling them that she “will be delivering an addition to the first family”-

-It will be her and her husband’s fifth child-

-She said she’ll be able to handle running the state-

-An AP story said three months ago Palin was modeling for the fashion magazine Vogue and reporters agreed she doesn’t look like she’s seven months pregnant-Her other children are 18, 17, 13 and 6-

-I wonder who packs the school lunches at her home-

•Arizona’s Pretty Good Canyon in the northwestern part of the state is actually a lot older that we all thought-And I’m sure you think a lot about the Grand Canyon-

-In Friday’s issue of Science, scientists now say the canyon started forming 17 million years ago, instead of the 6 million years previously thought-

-The scientists said the canyon started from the west and then another canyon started later from the east-

-The two broke through to meet each other about six million years ago-

Scientists, led by a team from the University of New Mexico, used an improved uranium-leading dating technique which can test the ages back tens to hundreds of million years-

-Friday’s New York Times in its story of the discovery repeated an old joke about the canyon-A prospector seeing the canyon for the first time said “Something awful happened here”-

•And if you’re a true Arizona history fan, the Tumacacori National Historical Park launches it’s centennial celebrations starting Saturday-A highlight will be dedication at 2 p.m. of the Emery Oak in front of the visitors’ center-The oaks gave Arizona its name-The Basque word for oak is “Arizona”-There’s a ranch not too far away in Mexico known as Arizona-No charge for any of the centennial events-

Jim Lamb’s a reporter for the Green Valley News who sometimes pays as much attention to his driving as he does to reading license plates.
