Four pets to help you welcome spring

Published: Tuesday, February 26, 2008 9:17 PM MST

Howie

Howie is an 18-month-old bundle of pure joy! Even though he was found “hanging around” The Springs for a week, he came through it OK and is no worse for the wear — personality-wise at any rate! He’s been checked over by the vet who has given Howie his shots, pronounced him in great shape, and says that he’s ready to bound out the door at The Animal League of Green Valley with his new people any time. Howie is a 33-pound, recently neutered, shepherd/Chow mix with a handsome mask on his forehead that gives him a husky-like look, too. He’s getting along famously with his four doggie roommates right now, so he should do just fine in an energetic household with kids, other dogs and, well, maybe even cats, although no one knows whether he’s met those critters before or not. Admit it! You need some furry fun in your life - and Howie is just the ticket!

Sweet Sue

After living with her rescuers (and their two cats) for only a week, they say that Sweet Sue is “well mannered, friendly, and loyal,” so you can believe that she lives up to her name. She “just appeared” in the yard of a lovely couple one day and they took her in hoping that someone in the neighborhood would come looking for her. Sad to say, no one did, so she’s here at TALGV with high hopes that she’ll get to go to a home where she’ll be appreciated and loved for the sweetie that she is.

She only weighs 19 pounds, and although she’s obviously had a litter or two of puppies, she’s still pretty young (maybe 3 or 4), so she’d be the perfect size and temperament for a family or person who would like to have quiet company and someone to talk to and walk with every day.

Sweet Sue is a white, short-haired, terrier “something-else” mix with “interesting” pointy ears that are, actually, quite charming! If her looks don’t get you, then her personality will.

Tinkerbelle

Tinkerbelle and her “Disney kids,” Nemo, Cinderella, Beauty, and Minnie, ended up in a very nice man’s backyard way last May. He took care of them for a while, but since he already had a dog and another cat, he just couldn’t keep them forever (tempted though he was!).

Tinkerbelle is a classic torti girl, not very old herself (maybe 2 years old now), and is as sweet and affectionate as can be. Her children were adopted months ago, so it’s definitely time for her to find a place of her own, too. Although she had lived outside for a lot of her life, she has been very grateful to have a safe, indoor home at TALGV. Now, to make her life complete, Tinkerbelle needs that forever home where she will be loved (and spoiled) and able to admire nature’s beauty from the indoors out.

Prieta

Prieta and her best friend (and maybe sibling?), Sassy, went to stay with a very nice lady while their people went to “travel a bit,” but, funny thing, they never came back to get them! No one knows why they would have left two beauties like Prieta and Sassy, but here they are, hoping that they might find someone who can take them both to live with them forever!

They are striking, 1-year-old, brown tabbies who look very much like Maine coon cats with their long, luxurious, fur (since no one knows their heritage, there well may be some pure blood in there somewhere!). In addition to their good looks, they are both as sweet and loving as can be - quiet and laid back sometimes, but still way young enough to love to play with toys and generally spice up your life. If you can’t take them both, they will be OK on their own, but it would be nice for them to stay together if possible. When you take one (or both) of them home with you, your life will have a whole new dimension!
