NewsGV author releases new book Sondra S. Williams of Green Valley has written “Journey up the Stairs: An Adventure in Faith,” a new book published by PublishAmerica. “Journey up the Stairs” is the story of trials and triumphs of a senior woman, who is also a VIP (visually impaired person), learning to cope with deteriorating vision and a crumbling longtime marriage. In the midst of turmoil, inexplicable events and lost dreams, she finds direction, peace, new goals and remarkable and unexpected opportunities. She enjoys “reading” via recordings, playing cards, writing and the colors of the world, despite seeing it through partially blind eyes. Local theater group plans open auditions The Santa Cruz Shoestring Players, a new community theater group, announces open auditions for its spring play, “The Impostures of Scapin,” by Moliere. The group is open to anyone in the Santa Cruz Valley and encourages the involvement of non-retired folks around town. Needed are actors, a pianist, and behind the scenes help. Auditions will take place Tuesday, March 4, at the Community Performing Arts and Learning Center at 1250 W. Continental Rd. in Green Valley. Beginning at 5 p.m. and ending at 8:30 p.m., auditions will consist of cold readings and a brief, one-two minute monologue, which does not need to be memorized. “Scapin” is a 17th century French farce which plays upon the confusion and entanglements of love. Much of this confusion is caused by the lead character, Scapin, a servant who delights in intrigue and getting even. Full of fun, “Scapin” lends itself to physical humor and will be sure to provide a rollicking good time for its audiences.
