School board to discuss growth, funding, second HS

The Sahuarita school board tonight is scheduled to discuss the second high school, a request for a growth advance and next year’s school calendar.

The Regular Governing Board meeting is set for 6:30 p.m. in the district auditorium, 350 W. Sahuarita Road.

Agenda items include the following: a Sahuarita Intermediate School Student Council presentation; approval of the 2008-2009 teaching calendar; revision of the 2007-2008 budget; a request for bids on a student management system; a request for an advance based on growth; the new high school update; an employee exit questionnaire, and the safety committee.

Also on the agenda, recognition of the February “Leaders in Character” honorees — Perla Morgan Alvarez, third grade, Sopori School; Brittany Barfield, sixth grade, Anza Trail School; Eris Young, first grade, the primary school; Nicolas Noon, third grade, the intermediate school; Elizabeth Cox, eighth grade, the middle school, and Joy Medearis, 12th grade, the high school.

The “Friend of Sahuarita” award will be given to Scott and Jennifer Lee; Mark and Kim Walsh; Christopher and Kim Mougeot; J.R. and Roxanne Jackson; Maracay Homes, and the “Home Team” — Mary Benavides and Lara Abend.

Staff member Joe Prince of Sahuarita High School also will be recognized.


Volunteers to be recognized, all from Anza Trail School, are: Warren Derton; Debbie Diggs-Tapia; Julie DiMaria; Mary McGraw, and Jessica Vance.

New guest teachers are: Joel Fisher; Michael Fraboni; Sherry Hoffman-Blum; Albert Kroska; Matthew Malone and James Rushford.

Those providing gifts and donations include: Lara and Stacey Abend, SUSD, $150; Jorge and Mary Benavides, SUSD, $150; Raytheon Co., Anza Trail School, $400; Scholarship America, SHS, $400; Carmen Garcia, Goal Posts for Anza Trail Soccer Team, and Bethany and Robert Upton, a half size violin and clarinet, Anza Trail School.

Use of School Facilities has been requested by the American Cancer Society, which is seeking use of the SHS Football Field/Track and High School Snack Bar for the Relay for Life event from 2 p.m., April 11, through 10 a.m., April 12.
