passed away on Feb. 16, 2008, at his home in Green Valley as a result of cancer. Jerry was born on Oct. 3, 1932, in Ogdensburg, N.Y., the only child of Fred and Marie Shannahan Erwin. He attended local schools and graduated from St. Mary’s Academy in 1950. He joined the U.S. Air Force in 1951 and served for two and a half years, attaining the rank of Airman First Class. Following the service, he attended Manhattan College and received his BA in psychology. He then received his Masters in psychology from Columbia University in New York City. Jerry worked 32 years for the St. Lawrence Psychiatric Center in Ogdensburg as head if the psychology department. He also taught at Waddam’s Hall Seminary and Mater Dei College as a part-time instructor for a number of years. As he was also a certified school psychologist, Jerry consulted with the Heuvelton School District. In addition, he worked for the Diocese of Ogdensburg, providing psychological input for the Tribunal Board. Jerry was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Elks, American Legion and the Moose Lodge. He also enjoyed golfing and boating, but his greatest gift was making friends. He was a very kind and non-judgmental and was well liked by all he met. He is survived by Mary Ann, his wife of 35 years; and four children: Tom (Shannon) Erwin, Mark (Michele) Corrice, Carol (David) Schacherer, and Beth Corrice and her companion Beth Grogan. He is also survived by six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife Grace Vallose Erwin; and a son Richard. A memorial Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 21, 2008, at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church in Green Valley. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the charity of your choice.
