NewsRocky One of the dogs available at The Animal League of Green Valley is great with children, cats, and other dogs. Rocky is a year and a half old rottweiler mix who weighs in at 50 pounds. He has all of his shots and is neutered. He is crate-trained, very well behaved, and responds to hand signals. The owner hates to have to find a new home for Rocky, and his other dog Elvis, but because he has a full-time job and now goes to night school, he feels that his loyal friends need better homes. Rocky is very affectionate and protective of his owner and the household. He is either an indoor or outdoor pet as long as he has company. When indoors, he is housebroken and stays off of the furniture (unless you call him in to sleep with you). He would be a great family dog or a very loyal friend to one person. He is young enough to be playful, but old enough to understand his training. It is a joy to watch him running through the desert or sitting in the backyard enjoying a barbeque. For more information and/or to arrange to meet him, please call the TALGV Offsite Dog Coordinator, Cathie Fisher, at 648-3738. Bogart Big, brown, and bodacious — that’s Bogart! He was seen for several weeks just sort of “hanging out” at the edge of an arroyo on North Abrego near the golf course. He wanted to come to the people who tried to help him, but because he was a bit anxious and confused, he kept his distance. Finally, a man brought his dog (that he had adopted from TALGV awhile ago) near to where Bogart was, and when he and his dog told Bogart it was OK to come with them, he did! He is a 48-pound, approximately 2-year-old, Lab/Shar Pei mix. In just the short time he spent with him, his rescuer said that Bogart is a “sweet, affectionate dog who loves to play.” He’s in the “what you see is what you get” category, as he has done pretty much all the growing heis going to do. The fine people at TALGV have had him checked by the vet, given him all those necessary shots, and will have him neutered on Feb. 21 (Yikes! That’s tomorrow.). Bogart will make some lucky family a wonderfully loving, grateful, and devoted companion. Shadow Shadow is a handsome, 2-year-old, declawed, orange, tan and white boy who came to live with his people six months ago. Their resident cat wasn’t exactly thrilled to have competition, so although they gave it some time, it was apparent that their cats were never going to become friends (or even have an “armed truce”!). They also had a dog and two kids, and Shadow got along very well with them, so he’d probably be fine with another cat-savvy canine as a companion. Unfortunately, even though Shadow is declawed, his people let him go outside, but because that is SUCH a no-no for all cats, not just those who are declawed, Shadow will have to learn to watch the world go by from a windowsill or maybe a screened porch. He’d love sleeping with you, though, so we’re sure that after a short time, he’ll forget the “birds and bees” and settle down and appreciate the safety of his own home. In addition to being a looker, Shadow is outgoing, affectionate and playful, so there’s a lot wrapped up in this 13-pound package! Feliz Feliz is now a romping 14 weeks old, but at the tender age of 6 weeks, he and his sisters, Hope and Charity, were left, cold and frightened, in a crate on the doorstep of a local groom shop. Luckily for them, they were brought to TALGV where they found lots of food, and it was toasty warm with great snuggly things to sleep in. Feliz is a long-haired, black and white fellow with white whiskers, chin, underbelly, and paws. Handsome as the devil! It is likely that Feliz’s mom is feral, so he and his sisters went home with Becky, a TALGV cat socializer, for some extra TLC. She helped them to learn that people mean no harm and can actually be fun things to play with! From Becky’s home they were brought back to the facility, where Hope and Charity were recently adopted. In order to completely overcome their mother’s early influence, they will all need as much playing with and cuddling as their new families can provide for them, and with it, they’ll be very thankful and sweet feline companions to some lucky families. For more information about these and other lovable pets waiting for their own, special home, contact TALGV at 1600 W. Duval Mine Rd., Sahuarita. Call 625-3170, or visit www.talgv.org.
