Organizers plan Solar Forum in GV

Interested in installing solar panels on your roof?

The answers to your question may be answered at a solar forum in March that will have speakers representing the government, utility companies and vendors of such equipment.

A number of other ideas on using the sun’s rays will also be discussed.

The free forum will be held 9 a.m. to noon, Saturday, March 15, at the Canoa Hills Center.

Chairperson Genna Lemman said an hour has been set aside at the end so audience members can query the speakers about installing energy conservation equipment at their houses.

Speakers will include Tamarack Little of U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords’ staff, Betsy Bolding of Tucson Electric Power and Chris Bagett of TRICO, and Katherine Kent, president of the Solar Store.

The forum’s announcement said things to be discussed are residential installations, including information on getting permits, costs and financial arrangements to help pay for the new equipment.

Legislators in the Arizona capitol recently approved laws that permit environmental-friendly installations on some property that might override some Homeowner Association rules against them.

Moderator for the forum will be Bob Campbell of the Environmental Committee of the Green Valley Community Coordinating Council.

Besides the GVCCC, other sponsors include the Green Valley Sahuarita Chamber of Commerce and Green Valley Recreation.

Other members of the organizing committee are Gary Sullivan, Eileen MacLaren and Campbell.

For more information call Lemman at 625-2027.

Sahuarita traffic signal in operation this week

The new traffic signal at the intersection of Sahuarita Road and Rancho Sahuarita Boulevard will be in operation by the end of this week, the town announced Saturday.

Message boards are posted at the intersection to warn residents about the new signal.

Sahuarita Town Council members voted in mid-December to install a temporary signal until a permanent one is installed as part of the Sahuarita Road improvement project.

For more information on Sahuarita’s transportation projects, call the Public Works Department at 399-3339.

  • The Town of Sahuarita and Robson Communities officially opened Campbell Avenue at Quail Crossing Boulevard in a ribbon-cutting ceremony Saturday.
