ObituariesEvelyn Bilger Morris, 89,
of Green Valley, passed away peacefully on Jan. 29, 2008. She is survived by her daughters: Stevenson Morris Bass (Ken Gallard) of Taos, N.M., Nancy Morris Tomasko (Dave) of Anchorage, Alaska, and Cynthia Huntington (Bruce Kaplan) of Portland, Ore; four grandchildren, Corbett Quinn, Natasha Tomasko Peacock, Nicholas Stevenson Cohon, Jessica Morris Cohon; and one great-grandchild, Taylor Leigh Peacock, as well as her sister Lucienne Bilger Teg, Connecticut, and her cousin Herb Williams, Tucson. She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 plus years, Daniel Bontecou Morris. Evelyn had a long, full, interesting and creative life. She graduated from Hartford High School, Hartford, Conn. Before marriage she worked as a bank teller, then was able to focus on the home while her children were in school. In the 1960s, she put her gardening skills to work in a flower shop. Throughout her Connecticut years she worked for the Red Cross Blood Mobile as a nurses aide, a docent at the Wadsworth Atheneum and volunteered her time as a Girl Scout leader while raising her three girls. All the while she made a beautiful home and garden as well as nurturing her girls’ interests and activities with the fine and decorative arts, horses, camping and sailing. Dan and Evelyn had the pleasure of retiring in three states: Lake Pocotopaug, Conn., Yarmouth Port, Mass., and then for the last 25 plus years in Green Valley, where they joined the Green Valley Community Church. Evelyn founded the Canvas Backers, a group that created and sold needlework to support educational scholarships and other community projects. She was also active in the New England Club and dance groups. She was an avid photographer for all three groups, documenting and archiving their activities. Dan, Evelyn and family lived briefly in Los Alamos, N.M., in the early 50s. Their love of the Southwest brought them back. Evelyn’s delight in travel took her to many countries, repeated trips to her father’s birthplace in France as well as other European countries. Two summers ago, she went to Russia to visit her daughter. Evelyn was part of the La Posada community for the last three years. Evelyn Morris touched and influenced many lives. She will be missed. Memorial Services will be held at Green Valley Community Church at 1 p.m., today, Feb. 1, 2008.
