Genealogical Society schedules Tennessee speaker

J. Mark Lowe will be the speaker at the Green Valley Genealogical Society annual seminar on Saturday, Feb. 16.

Lowe is a resident of Springfield, Tenn., which lies in northern Middle Tennessee along the Kentucky border, and has ancestry in both states.

As a national and regional speaker, Lowe blends the ability to resolve difficult issues using often overlooked records with his unique humor and southern style. He enjoys sharing his love of genealogy and the joy of research with others and also does some historic re-enacting.

Lowe is past president of the Association of Professional Genealogists and former vice president of the Federation of Genealogical Societies. He is also past president of the Southern Kentucky Genealogical Society where he implemented a year-long series of genealogical skill-building workshops for its members.

Lowe’s articles and reviews appear in several national genealogical quarterlies. His own publications include Pioneer Cemetery (Bowling Green, Ky.) and Robertson County Tennessee Marriage Book 2, 1859-1873. Seminar topics include:

  • Making those early Census records talk to you;

  • Out on a limb, trapped by bad research;

  • My Ancestor, the farmer: Shaping a profile for your rural ancestor;

  • Smith vs. Jones, et al., a closer look at court records;

    The seminar is scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Elks Lodge, Green Valley. Registration, including lunch is $37.50 for members and $42.50 for non-members.

    Registration forms and directions to the Elks Lodge are on the society Web site at www.rootsweb.com/~azgvgs/.
