On Saturday, Feb. 2, Democratic Women in Action will hold a luncheon and fashion show at the Desert Diamond Center at Pima Mine Road.

Net proceeds from the event will be used to benefit the new 2008 Democratic headquarters in the Green Valley Mall.

Produced by Nancy Yaw of Nogales, chairperson of the “Passion for Fashion,” fundraiser, it will feature fashions from Maya Palace in Tucson and will include several local women as models — Legislative District 30 candidate Andrea Dalessandro, District 30 Senate candidate Georgette Valle and District 25 candidate Pat Fleming.

Other local models are Elsa Chamberlain, Alma Sychuk, Rosa Webb and Kathleen Wishnick.

Bonnie Richards, first vice president and program chair of Democratic Women in Action, said: “Fashion shows are uniquely something women like…we thought it would be the easiest ticket to sell.

“We want to get the Democratic message out to all Democratic women; the new headquarters located between Marti’s Bistro and Bonworth in the Green Valley Mall is open and is an excellent place to get information about the candidates.”

Tickets are $30 per person and include a choice of pecan chicken in pear sauce or a vegetarian dish. To reserve a table of eight and sit with friends, call Richards at 625-9039; to buy individual or fewer than eight tickets call Diana Kistler at 648-0709.

Tickets need to be purchased in advance; no tickets will be sold at the event.

Doors open at 11; lunch will be served at noon followed by the fashion show with each woman modeling two outfits.

It’s important to note that the fundraiser will be held in the Desert Diamond Center, which is a separate building located behind the casino on Pima Mine Road.
