Huckelberry to speak at GV library event

County Administrator Chuck Huckelberry is expected to give a kind of “state of the library” update Thursday at the annual Green Valley Friends of the Library observance at 1 p.m., at the Community Church, 300 West Esperanza Blvd.

It’s been just about a year since Pima County and the city of Tucson dissolved their agreement over joint control of the library system, and Huckelberry may have some observations of how the transition went and how things are running now.

County Supervisor Ray Carroll is scheduled to introduce Huckelberry.

The library here, more properly the Conrad Joyner-Green Valley Library, is one of the busiest in the county library system.

The library, named for a former supervisor who championed its location here, circulated more than 400,000 items last year, fourth-largest circulation in the system.

Besides a place to read and borrow books, the library is a mecca of scholars. Many speakers on a wide variety of topics regularly lecture there.

It’s got a modern computer system and it offers a variety of programs, a symphony preview series, summer travel series and a kids’ summer reading program.
