SportsSpecial to the Green Valley News More than 2,000 seniors are expected to compete in the 24th Annual Senior Olympic Festival, which begins today. Senior Olympians, 50 years of age and older, will participate in nearly 70 events and competitive activities at more than 30 venues throughout Tucson. They will compete in various age and gender divisions in athletic events ranging from aerobics to volleyball and non-athletic events, which run each day of the festival. Admission is free. Official opening ceremonies, including a senior expo and parade of athletes, will be held at 10 a.m. tomorrow at Reid Park’s DeMeester outdoor performance center at 22nd Street and Country Club Road, Tucson.. The first 1,000 attendees will get free hot dogs and be eligible for a $500 cash prize from Tucson Old Pueblo Credit Union. A Vegas-style dinner and dance for register participants is scheduled for 6 p.m., Jan. 26, at the Randolph Golf Complex Clubhouse, 600 S. Alvernon Way, Tucson.
