MAUDE EVLYN HANSON passed away

on Sunday, Jan. 6, 2008, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Tucson.

Born in 1926 to Earnest and Maude Fox Gibson, she married Wallace W. Hanson in 1946 in Sioux Falls, S.D. There she and Wally raised their four children, Rory, Mike, Diane and Elizabeth.

Evlyn began her library career at the Watertown Public Library in South Dakota. In Sioux Falls, she worked at the Children’s Library, drove a Bookmobile and retired from the main Sioux Falls Public Library as Circulation Librarian.

In 1999, she moved to Green Valley to greet the sunrise at her door every morning. She enjoyed playing cards, gardening and knitting and was a gifted artist in several mediums.

She was preceded in death by her husband Wallace; son Rory; granddaughter Amanda; brother Glenn; sisters Helen and Dorothea; and in-laws Alice and Herman Amend, Frank and Alda Wulff and Robert Birdsong, Sr.

She is survived by her son Michael (Dawn); grandchildren Adam and Heather of Waycross, Ga.; daughter Diane (Del Gehrett) of Littleton, Colo.; daughter Elizabeth (Mark Sneddon) of Arlington, Va.; grandson Rory Hanson of Augusta, Ga.; daughter-in-law Chris Hanson of Waycross; three step-grandchildren and a great-grandson Blake Sneddon; sisters-in-law Evelyn Gibson and Shirley Birdsong; brother-in-law John Wilke; and numerous nieces and nephews. Evlyn is also survived by her many loving friends and neighbors in Green Valley and Sioux Falls. Her beloved schnauzer Moxie will be moving to Colorado. Her final days were made easier by the caring and compassionate staff of St. Mary’s Hospital.

Memorial services will held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 14, 2008, at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church with a reception to follow at The Villages of Green Valley Community Center.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to a charity of one’s choice.
