ObituariesLILLIAN K. DOBKIN,
a resident of Green Valley for 17 years, passed away at her home on Dec. 22, 2007. She was born on Jan. 26, 1917, in the Bronx, N.Y., to Isador and Josephine Kraus. She graduated from Walton High School and 54 years later received her Associates Degree from Mercy College in New York. Lil lived in Mt. Vernon, N.Y. for 50 years where she worked in the City Clerk’s office for 21 years. She was a member of Beth Shalom Temple Center, Hadassah and Brandeis University Women’s Group. Lil loved volunteering. For 20 years she tutored English for the Literacy Volunteers of America, spent seven years helping with Tapes for the Blind, worked at the GV Library bookstore and Casa de Esperanza. She received the Paragon Award in 2006 for her many services. She was preceded in death by husbands David Kantor and Solomon Dobkin; daughter Roberta, stepdaughter Cecelia; and brothers Harold and Milton. She is survived by companion Larry; son, daughter-in-law and grandson of Arizona; grandson and two great-granddaughters of New Jersey; stepdaughter and her children in Israel; a sister in California; and many loving and caring friends. Lil loved an audience for her jokes and would like to be remembered for having made them laugh. A celebration of Lillian’s life will be held at Beth Shalom Temple Center, 1751 N. Rio May in Green Valley on Thursday, Jan 24, 2008, at 11 a.m. with a reception to follow. Donations may be made to Beth Shalom Temple Center.
