HAROLD “HAL” ALTSTAETTER, 81

passed away on Jan. 5, 2008, after a long battle with lung cancer.

He was preceded in death by his parents Ben and Aurelia Altstaetter; and his sister Marie of Lansing, Mich. He is survived by wife Margaret “Meg,” the love of his life. They have been married for over 61 wonderful years. He is also survived by two fine sons: Robin (Frances) of Anna Maria Island, Fla. and Chris (Renate) of Madison, Wis.; granddaughters Alecia (Ian) Nelson of Whitefish Bay, Wis., Sara Christine Altstaetter of Madison and Shana Mae Altstaetter of Brooklyn, N.Y.; plus great-grandchildren Jonah, Hayden, Hollis and Abram Nelson, all of Whitefish Bay,

He is also survived by special niece and her husband Sue and Phil Rock of Green Valley; plus special niece Ann Milam of Eaton Rapids, Mich., plus special niece and her husband Barb and Dan Fuller of Grand Ledge, Mich.

Hal served in the medical department of the U.S. Navy in both WWII and the Korean War.

Hal and Meg wintered in Green Valley in 1986 and moved there permanently in 1991. They owned a dental laboratory in Mt. Pleasant, Mich. for 28 years.

Hal was an active tennis player, a game he really loved; he was also a member of the Euchre Club and the Michigan Club. He served on the board of Desert Hills V Homeowners Assoc. for three years and was a pool monitor for 18 years.


The family would like to express appreciation for the wonderful and thoughtful care Hal received from Odyssey Health care during his valiant struggle. Remembrances may be made to Odyssey Hospice Care at 1730 E. River Rd. Tucson, AZ 85718.

A celebration of Hal’s life shall be held Wednesday, March 5, 2008, at Desert Hills Rec. Center from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
