Does anyone else feel that our neighbor to the north, who appears to be having all sorts of problems, just might be looking to the south, and perhaps seeing one solution to their troubles.
If they were to annex Green Valley, it would solve many of their problems, but what kinds of problems, real or perceived, would we have?
Perhaps it’s time for us to utter that dreaded word, incorporation. There, I said it out loud, and it only hurt for a little while.
I must admit that I know very little about the past three attempts to incorporate Green Valley, but now might be a good time to look in that direction again. I would like to hear this subject discussed in detail, so that we all could better understand the pros, and cons, of incorporation. Why did the last attempts at incorporation fail?
What would incorporation do to, or for us?
With our own city government would we have better streets, and more control over what gets developed, and where. Being incorporated should bring better services, and more a responsive government. Responsive to our needs, rather than the county directing our future, we would have the control, and our own self rule would protect our own interests.
In light of the present circumstances, in and around Green Valley, do we now need our own full-time police department, fire department. streets and sanitation? What would all that do to our taxes? How much of our tax money would then be returned to our community? Would that be enough to pay for the extra services we would be getting? How would incorporation affect our fast approaching water crises?
Would we be better off with the established government in the city to the north, or should we form our own city government, with new insight and direction for the problems, needs and wants, particular to our community. We have our own problems to solve, and we certainly don’t need to be part of someone else’s problems.
I hope everyone with any knowledge incorporation will write and offer their insight into this, very possible scenario. I know that some people are dead set against incorporation, but I would like to know why? Would we be giving more than we would get? Are objections worse than the possible consequences of being swallowed by some other community, which could make us a part of their problems, instead of us solving our own?
