TUBAC — Beginning Jan. 12 from 9 a.m. to noon, Saturday mornings at the Tubac Culinary School will be dedicated to gluten-free cooking workshops.

Five guest chefs will bring their expertise covering a variety of styles and cuisines, with food-preparation tips that will add to a gluten-free diet.

A gluten-free diet is vital for those with Celiac Disease and important for anyone with an allergy to products made with wheat, barley or rye. Research also suggests that a gluten-free diet is beneficial for children with autism.

The chefs who will be presenting the workshops are:

  • Sande Smith, owner of the Blue Sky Ranch Gluten-Free Cooking classes, who will be moving the location of her classes to the Tubac Culinary School.

  • Sean Brisby, chef at Canyon Ranch in Tucson, is featured on local news channels, CNN, The Fine Living Network, Discovery Health Channel, and The Food Network.

  • Jean Duane, Alternative Cook, LLC, is an award winning entrepreneur, guest TV cook, author, and food evangelist.

  • Tori Christie, Head Chef and Director of the University of Arizona Food Services, is the innovator of C.O.R.E., UA’s gluten-free kitchen, and is a TV cooking show hostess and restaurant owner.

  • David Courtland, guest chef, is a graduate of Pima Community Culinary School.

Each workshop costs $60 plus tax and includes samplings of the food prepared that day.

Participants can register by calling the school at (520) 398-8501. Space will be filled on a first-come basis.
