LettersEditor: I don’t know who wrote the editorial “Green Valley: A great place to live, retire” (Dec. 12) but my guess is it was someone who doesn’t live here and/or is not yet retired. I’ve had property here since 1980 and have lived here full time since 1997, and given the illegal problem and the water problem, I wouldn’t retire here again. Nor could I in good conscience recommend Green Valley as a retirement choice to a potential retiree. “Paradise Lost” is the reality of Green Valley. However, given my age (78) and the reality of the situation, I’m stuck, as are many my age and older. Your editorial and the failure of Green Valley to incorporate so that it can control its own affairs is indicative of the situation those of us who have no other choice find ourselves in: Subject to the whims of the Pima County Board of Supervisors, none of whom live in Green Valley. We still have the vote, however, and we should exercise it in the next election and get rid of our de facto mayor, Ray Carroll. He and his little band of sycophants are using the mine issue to prevent the CAP pipeline from being extended to Green Valley. They have offered no better solution than that of the Community Water Co. Some of us have been here long enough to remember when Conrad Joyner was our supervisor. The library was named after him. We could name the city dump after Ray Carroll, if he’s lucky. Sherman Frey, Green Valley
