OLLI in Green Valley announces spring classes

Ed Greenberg relishes a fair fight. He enjoys verbal jousting with “gladiators” armed with intelligence and knowledge, and his chosen arena is the classroom.

Thus, this political history hobbyist is eager to take on all adversaries willing to confront the ideology and logic of the U.S. Supreme Court.

“Ideology is usually the fierce enemy of logic, and over the past 50 years the Justices of the Supreme Court have led the way in improvising new rules, splitting hairs and inventing slogans to evade logical thinking,” Greenberg contends.

Whether you agree or disagree with the court’s decisions regarding women’s rights, freedom of speech, search and seizure, capital punishment and other legal issues, Greenberg invites you to study and discuss the subjects in his class “The Supreme Court is Illogical!”

This is one of more than 30 classes offered by the Green Valley affiliate of the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at the University of Arizona during the spring semester, which runs from Feb. 4 through March 28.

OLLI Green Valley spring class subjects range from history and travel to religion and the arts. Study group leaders include university professors, a minister, a psychologist, an aerospace research physicist, an investment broker and a Peace Corps honoree.

Class locations are:

  • First American Title Insurance Co. (101 S. La Canada Drive in the Green Valley Mall)

  • Casa de Esperanza (780 S. Park Centre Ave. on the La Posada campus)

  • Beth Shalom Temple Center (1751 N. Rio Mayo)

The cost of a Green Valley OLLI membership is $50 per semester and entitles participants to free enrollment in all classes offered in Green Valley, as well as one class at the UA OLLI center in Tucson.

Membership packets with specific class information are available at the Joyner-Green Valley Library, 601 N. La Canada Drive, or contact Penny Schmitt at the OLLI/UA office (520) 626-9039.
