ObituariesLAWRENCE KORN was born in August 1928,
in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., the son of Hannah and Osborn Korn on Dec. 2, 2007, he died at Sugar’s II Adult Care Home because of complications from a rare neurological disease, Olivopontocerebellar Atrophy, a progressive brain stem disease which affects balance and speech. His mentality was not affected. He was under Hospice family service care for over a year. Larry grew up in Syracuse, N.Y. and graduated from Nottingham High School. From December 1947 until January 1948 he was a Private First Class and a medic in the Occupation Army in Kyoto, Japan. In 1952, he graduated from Cornell University with a B.S. degree in Biology. Larry was a fisheries biologist and worked on Columbia River salmon and steelhead for 34 years in management and research capacities as an employee of the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife. After retirement, he took a position with the Columbia Basin Fish and Wildlife Authority. He was a member of the American Fisheries Society and the American Institute of Research Biologists. He leaves his wife of 46 years Ruth Korn; an uncle, an aunt, and several cousins. His many hobbies included fishing, swimming, gardening, hiking, and bird watching. Larry and Ruth were Snow Birds from the Portland, Ore. area from 1999 until 2005 when they became permanent residents of Green Valley.
